I am frequently asked if it would be of any benefit for receiving the course materials ahead of time, before the class is taught. My answer to this is always “no” because the crux and emphasis of this course is not the technical material in and of itself. You must learn to think and act like a carpet inspector, and more importantly learn how to put information in a written report correctly, as to convey your findings accurately. Having the course materials ahead of time will not help you with this aspect of your learning.

Much has been said about the IICRC examination for the Senior Carpet Inspector and hopefully this information will help you to plan and prepare for the day of the test, and will help you to plan your time of departure if you desire to leave on the evening of the same day of the exam.

First of all, the IICRC exam for Senior Carpet Inspector is an open book test. This obviously means that you can refer to your course manual to look up an answer if you are not sure about it, and the test consists of 360 questions, most of which are multiple choice. This is one reason why you do not need to receive the course materials in advance of the class. There are also two written reports that need to be completed along with the test to hand in to the IICRC.

The time that it takes for each student to take the exam is approximately 4 hours. Some students finish in less time, some take as long as 6 hours. I have not seen any students take longer than 6 hours to take the exam while attending our course. I think most individuals know their test taking ability, and it will be up to each one of you to determine the amount of time you need to allow yourself if you need to plan for departure on the day of the exam. You should also know that it will take approximately 20-30 minutes to arrive to the airport by taxi directly from the class location.
